I think if you want it streamlined, then the mobile/steam version is truly the way to go there. Things feel a lot more fluid in the palm of your hand, and you can get a lot more done in the digital interface. I like it a lot, honestly.

Too long, too fiddly and than a newbie on the table ? 6 hours, no fun. I still wait on a streamlined catd driven civ game with easy rules and a max of 2 hours playing.

I can imagine, a game engine like 51st state can be a good base mechanism for a more “easy going” civ style game.
